Rainy Day Woman # 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5
Today was all about wind and rain at 8 Kepa Rd Ruakaka, doors were shut, c.d’s were played (loud) and boards were shaped. I very seldom get to work like this as usually each board I shape is completely different to the one before it so it made a refreshing change to work on a run of identical shapes. I love the Mini Simmons shape and doing five in a row was the perfect way to connect with the compound curves and hone my shaping technique, they came out mint!
I had so much fun working on this batch of 5’4″ Mini Simmons for a Barkers X Surfline collaboration which was another reason I enjoyed this shaping session so much. Barkers is a New Zealand brand that started around the same time as I shaped my first surfboard. We have both been in it for the long haul and it is an honour for me to be recognised and chosen by Barkers for a collaboration that celebrates our own unique Kiwi surf culture.
Our third clothing range is happening soon and these boards will be part of the fun! The garments and prints in this range are to my mind the best yet and run true to our Bream Bay board building and Kiwi surfing lifestyle. The five Mini Simmons just shaped will be an integrated part of the presentation of this years range, due to launch this November.
Tune in and check it out!
